Six project subsidiaries of Sri Lankan renewable energy company WindForce PLC have emerged as winning bidders to construct 28 megawatts (MW) and 144 megawatt-hours (MWh) worth of battery energy storage systems (BESS), the firm disclosed in a regulatory filing.
WindForce’s projected equity commitment across these storage ventures stands at approximately 944 million rupees.
These bids were entered as part of a tender process aimed at establishing 150 MW / 600 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems, which will be paired with existing ground-mounted solar power facilities. The projects will follow a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) framework, running for a 15-year operational span.
“While the formal award of the projects is still pending, the Board of Directors considers this development to be price-sensitive information, given its relevance to the Company’s future operations, potential project portfolio expansion and long-term financial outlook,” WindForce stated.
The company verified that the bid pricing put forward by its project subsidiaries met the threshold required for a winning bid.
Among the six participating entities is Diya Janani (Pvt) Ltd, entirely owned by WindForce, contributing a project capacity of 3.75 MW / 18.75 MWh. Kebitigollewa Solar Power (Pvt) Ltd, in which WindForce holds an 88.50 percent stake, accounts for 4.90 MW / 25.00 MWh, while Vydexa (Pvt) Ltd, with WindForce’s 76.13 percent ownership, contributes the same capacity.
The balance comes from Solar Universe (Pvt) Ltd, Sooryashakthi (Pvt) Ltd, and Solar One Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd — each 50 percent held by WindForce and each delivering 4.90 MW / 25.00 MWh. Combined, these six projects add up to 28.25 MW and 143.75 MWh.
“This announcement contains forward-looking statements based on the current bidding outcome. These are subject to the final awarding process, regulatory approvals and execution of the relevant agreements,” the company noted.
WindForce indicated that additional market disclosures will follow once the formal contract awards are finalized, relevant agreements are executed, or any other significant developments arise.
