Storex Taps World’s No. 1 Battery Maker to Help Sri Lankans Beat the Net Plus Squeeze

As Sri Lanka’s rooftop solar owners scramble to adapt to the government’s controversial shift away from Net Metering and Net Accounting, a new local player is positioning itself as the answer to the sudden demand for home energy storage.

Storex Renewables Ltd. has officially launched SigenStor Neo — an all-in-one solar and battery storage system from Sigenergy, the company billed as the world’s No. 1 in the category — into the Sri Lankan market. The timing is no coincidence: the Ministry of Energy has been moving all new rooftop solar connections exclusively onto the Net Plus scheme, effectively shutting the door on new applicants hoping to join the older, more consumer-friendly Net Metering and Net Accounting arrangements.

That policy shift has reshaped the economics of solar power overnight. With the old schemes closing to new entrants, consumers are now expected to generate and store their own power independently — making on-site battery storage less of a luxury add-on and more of a necessity for anyone trying to maximise self-consumption and keep costs under control. Storex Renewables, which already has a track record in large-scale battery deployments, is betting that SigenStor Neo can fill that gap.

What sets the system apart, according to the company, is its level of integration. Sigenergy’s Neo platform combines the energy management system, inverter, battery and backup module into a single unit — and crucially, it can be retrofitted onto existing solar installations. That means homeowners and businesses already running on Net Metering or Net Accounting won’t need to rip out their current setup to add storage.

On the technical side, the battery is rated for 10,000 charge cycles — the highest figure currently available in the Sri Lankan market — and carries an IP66 rating, built to withstand local dust and weather conditions. Storex also claims the Sigenergy inverter is the first in stock locally that’s designed to scale alongside growing energy demand, addressing a common limitation in traditional battery systems that typically lock users into a fixed capacity from day one.

In the event of a power outage, the system is designed to switch to backup power without any disruption to connected loads, and it can draw power efficiently even from panels installed at different angles or orientations — a detail that matters for homes with less-than-ideal roof layouts.

The product will roll out to both residential and commercial customers through established installers, including SOLAR THERM, AIRO Engineering, and other selected partners and resellers.

Sigenergy Regional Manager Marvin Xiao explained the rationale behind the partnership: “We were looking for the best partner to distribute our products in Sri Lanka. We found that partner in Storex.”

Storex Renewables Director Lasith Wimalasena framed the launch as part of a broader legacy. “As part of the WindForce PLC Family, we have over two decades of experience in renewable energy and have delivered the largest battery and solar projects in the market. SigenStor Neo will not be just another product on the shelf. It is a premium product integrated and genuinely easy to use, and that is what we are bringing to Sri Lankan homes and businesses.”

Storex Renewables Manager Praboda Welagedera added further detail on what makes the system distinct: “This is the only solution of its kind fully integrated with inverter, battery and solar, where customers have peace of mind in terms of installation or compatibility issues. It simply works with any existing solar installation as an internal capacity enhancement with battery storage that can also grow.”
